Promotions let you offer discount codes for your event so attendees can get a reduced price when purchasing tickets. Promotions are useful for early supporters, special guests, or marketing campaigns, and give you control over how and when discounts can be used.
This article explains how to create a promotion and how to configure its rules.
What Is a Promotion?
A promotion is a discount code that can be applied at checkout for a specific event. Each promotion can have its own:
Custom promo code (for example, EARLYBIRD or FRIENDS10)
Description (what the promo is for)
Discount type (fixed amount or percentage)
Maximum number of uses
Start and end date
You can create multiple promotions for the same event, each with different rules.
When Should I Use Promotions?
Promotions are useful if you want to:
Reward early buyers with a discount
Share special codes with friends, partners, or VIP guests
Run limited-time sales or campaigns
Track how specific groups are buying tickets
If everyone should pay the same price, you may not need a promotion.
How to Create a Promotion
To create a promotion for your event:
Open the event you want to manage
Go to the Promotions settings section
Select Add new promotion
Enter the promotion details:
Promo code (the code attendees will type at checkout)
Description (optional, to explain the purpose of the code)
Discount type:
Amount off (for example, $5 off), or
Percentage off (for example, 20% off)
Maximum usage (how many times the code can be redeemed)
Start date and time (when the code becomes active)
End date and time (when the code expires)
Save the promotion
Once created, the promo code can be shared with attendees and applied at checkout.
Choosing a Discount Type
When creating a promotion, you can choose:
Amount off – Subtracts a fixed dollar amount from the ticket price
Percentage off – Reduces the ticket price by a percentage
Use amount-based discounts for simple offers and percentage-based discounts for larger price tiers.
Using Maximum Promo Usage
The maximum usage setting limits how many times a promotion code can be used.
This helps you:
Cap how many discounted tickets are sold
Offer exclusive codes to small groups
Prevent a code from being overused
Once the maximum number of uses is reached, the code will no longer work.
Using Promotion Start and End Dates
Promotion dates let you control when a code is valid:
Use a start date to schedule when a code becomes active
Use an end date to automatically disable the code
Run time-based campaigns (for example, “24-hour flash sale”)
Create early access or limited-time discounts
This allows you to plan promotions ahead of time without manually turning them off.
Writing a Promotion Description
Descriptions help you remember what a code is for and can clarify its purpose for your team.
Good examples:
“Early supporter discount”
“Friends and family code”
“Influencer promo code”
Keep descriptions short and specific.
Editing or Removing Promotions
You can edit a promotion after creating it, including:
Changing the description
Adjusting the discount amount or percentage
Updating the maximum usage
Modifying the start or end date
If a promotion has already been used, some changes may be limited. If you need to remove an active promotion that has redemptions, contact Beatmatch support for help.
